The MultiTrans from GNT Systems can be used to retrieve all NC data directly from the operator panel of the machine control to immediately transfer back optimized programs.
Installed directly at the point of use – at the machine or the workstation, the versatile unit records all data relevant for the machining process and sends

these wirelessly or by cable to a central data recording server for archiving and processing.
The MultiTrans offers unexpected advantages specifically for MDR/SFC applications – not only because this innovative hardware solution records shopfloor data directly at the workstation, but also because machine and production line statuses can be directly linked with the shopfloor data via MDR interfaces.

The MultiTrans terminal has a broad range of features and supplemental options for a wide spectrum of uses in various applications.

Client mode

In client mode the WLAN interface is used as a WAN port, and all Ethernet ports are used as LAN ports.

After this setting is enabled, the ComGate from then on automatically connects to the WLAN router after a reboot. Equipment connected via LAN ports are assigned a private IP address. The ComGate periodically sends PING packets to the WLAN router to maintain the connection.

AP client mode

In AP client mode, the WLAN port and all Ethernet ports are used as LAN ports. This mode is similar to the client mode with the difference that the WLAN interface simultaneously acts as AP and client. The ComGate periodically sends broadcast packets to the LAN subnet to maintain the link to the stations.

Gateway mode

In Gateway mode, the interfaces are split into WAN (Internet), LAN (private subnet 192.168.16.xx) and WLAN interface (private subnet 192.168.16.xx).

LAN port #0 is assigned to the WAN interface. The ComGate periodically sends broadcast packets to the LAN subnet to maintain the connection to the stations.

Application example: SFC terminal

  • Gateway mode is set in the ComGate.
  • The MultiTrans i is connected to the LAN via LAN port #0 to gain access to the SFC server.
  • The application-specific design of the MultiTrans i user interface is arranged on the server via web programming (e.g. with PHP) on the SFC server.
  • Personnel can be identified by the MultiTrans i via RFID with transponder tags.
    Barcode scanners and fingerprint scanners can for instance be connected via COM port #2 or USB.
  • The ComGate-internal COM server optionally provides access through an IP connection to any equipment with RS-232 interface connected to COM port #1 (e.g. printer or scale). COM port #1 of the ComGate must be configured appropriately for this purpose.
  • WLAN clients and a device connected via LAN port #1 can optionally gain access to the WAN interface via the ComGate.

Application example: NC machine

  • Client mode is set in the ComGate.
  • The MultiTrans i has access to the file server in the Internet via WLAN.
  • The application-specific design of the MultiTrans i user interface is arranged on the server via web programming (e.g. with PHP) on the file server.
  • Personnel can be identified by the MultiTrans i via RFID with transponder tags.
  • The ComGate-internal COM server has IP-based access to an NC machine with RS-232 interface connected to COM port #1. COM port #1 of the ComGate must be configured appropriately for this purpose.
  • LAN ports #0 and #1 provide the option to connect additional LAN-enabled equipment.
